Something you see every day....
Return
- a bandaid -- also known as elastoplast. Lionel and Jean were weekend guests at the home of Stephen and Penny. Lionel was uncomfortable about waking in the middle of the night in an unfamiliar house and accidentally walking into someone's room instead of into the bathroom. His plan was to put a piece of elastoplast along the top rim of the bathroom door frame. That way he could feel for it and identify the correct room before making a mistake that would have embarrassed him.
- a bell -- Lionel was sick in bed at the home in Hampshire. He was given a bell to alert those in the house that he needed something. He rang the bell so often that Jean regretted ever having given it to him.
- brown sauce -- Lionel and Jean both knew that they were about to get some new neighbors. Jean was quite curious and spent a good deal of time waiting to see who they were and what they were like. Lionel, on the other hand, pretended he was not at all interested and, in fact, made light of Jean's curiosity. On the day of the move, Jean found that Lionel had gone off early in the morning. He said he went out to buy some brown sauce to be used at breakfast, but Jean realized that they already had some and it was just an excuse for Lionel to watch the moving van. Jean put the sauce they already had on the kitchen table and hoped to trap Lionel into saying he really was interested.
- brandy -- Lionel and Jean were at a Chinese Restaurant and the bar was closed. Lionel asked Jean if she wanted a brandy and, although she did want one, she didn't understand how it would be possible for him to get it for her. He assured her that he was taught a trick by Alistair which would result in her getting what she wanted. He ordered a pot of "China Tea" with a knowing look. The waiter brought .... a pot of China tea.
- carrots -- Lionel and Jean have a minor disagreement about her retirement plans just after she went to Dr. Percival's office. Lionel leaves her in the living room and goes into the kitchen to shell some peas while she continues the conversation with Sandy and Judy. When Jean goes into the kitchen, Lionel is not sure whether or not Jean has forgiven him and he points to the carrots and tells her that if she wants to she can throw some at him. Clearly, he is no longer angry and neither is she. She starts to peel the carrots and then, playfully flips one at him. Another carrot scene is the one in which Alistair uses one as a microphone as he pretends to be drunk.
- a baseball hat -- Alistair comes back from his meeting with the mini-series developers in the U.S. and brings Jean and Lionel baseball hats as souvenirs. Jean wears hers to the airport later in that same episode.
- a bra -- Everyone is worried about Lionel because he seems to bored to death. He has nothing to do and isn't in the best of moods. He is in the kitchen doing the ironing and pulls out a bra. He stares at in and can't figure out how he should go about ironing it. Jean walks in and sees this and assures him it doesn't need ironing. It's at about this time when she realizes that something has to be done to occupy his time more profitably.
- a wristwatch -- It was Lionel's and he left it under the bed during the weekend that he and Jean spent at Stephen and Penny's. When Penny called the agency and left the message that the watch had been found under their bed, the secret that Lionel and Jean had shared a room in Hampshire was discovered.
- pickles -- Lionel makes Jean a pickle and cheese sandwich. It comes a bit unwrapped in her briefcase and the juice spills all over Sally Curtis' resume.
- a paper shredder -- Lionel has the final and only copy of the workup of his miniseries. He goes to the secretarial agency to ask if Sandy can make him a photocopy. Sandy gets distracted and Lionel goes to the machine in the other room. Unfortunately he went to the paper shredder instead of the copier and destroyed his work.
