Joker Judi makes Moira Merrier
MOIRA BROOKER says she was overawed by Dame Judi Dench when she started working with her in TV comedy As Time Goes By.

But her nerves vanished after she saw how much the great actress loved a joke. "I was daunted by the thought of who she was," confesses Moira, best-known as Dr Jane Andrews in successful cop soap The Bill. "Though she is actually terrific fun to work with. She once talked the cast into hiding all over the place when the director left the rehearsal room. "When he came back there was nobody there and he was completely bewildered. She kept doing it until he had to beg us not to disappear again."

Moira, 31, plays Dame Judi's divorced daughter Judith - trying to put TWO unhappy marriages behind her and dealing warily with men. "Judith has had a chequered past," says dark-haired Moira, who is married to actor Tony Milner.

She got a taste for country living while she was filming Forever Green last summer. A new series of this popular, rustic drama goes out later this spring, and Moira plays a young mum who has just moved in next door to John Alderton and Pauline Collins.
